Well we do have a lot of wordpress installs (not only for blogging, wordpress has come a long way and its almost at the point of becoming a full fledged cms like drupal or joomla), so having a good SEO pack to take care of the little tidbits of SEO is almost mandatory, so using the 2nd most popular wordpress plugin “All in One SEO Pack”, seems like a no-brainer, that is… it used to be, now more than ever its a nuisance, and moved from a very simple helpful plugin to a major bloated beast filled with plenty of idiotic choices, and i’ll gladly name a few:
1. Constant Updates, ohhh i’m all for updates, but come on, put it all in a bigger update, instead of pushing the equivalent of nightly builds, unless its a security risk (that i have my doubts, with this kind of plugin), it should be pushed with big updates, i guess they do this because of my second gripe…
2. When Updating they Deactivate the Script, yep, you activate on the plugins page, but you have to always go to the plugin itself to activate, thats just moronic and abusive, pushing ads/promotion/donations, jeez
3. Bloated or Useless Functions, stuff like pushing added keywords on single posts/pages, its not only pretty much useless these days, but its kinda promoting keyword stuffing, using excerpts as descriptions, talk about added bloat…
4. Adding Idiotic Stuff, to the code in the head like…
<– All in One SEO Pack 1.6.7 by Michael Torbert of Semper Fi Web Design –>
e in the head like… not only is it bloat to the code, but it also announces the freaking version, so if there is a security problem… yayyy
So as of now we are moving all of our wordpress installs from using the “All in One SEO Pack” to HeadSpace 2 and Platinum SEO Pack ^_^.oO( to see who performs better)
UPDATE: After a year i’ve done a more through Comparison of WordPress SEO Plugins heheheh and yes we do have a winner ^_^
How about considering alternative to WordPress altogether? I think we have a way better solution than WP when used as a corporate CMS where SEO is vital to the project success.
Please check http://www.seotoaster.com out, it is the most advanced SEO CMS out of the box; including automated deep-linking, automated media tagging, link sculpting using JavaScript and even point and click link siloing. You can also remote control an unlimited number of websites with an optional subscription to SEO Samba.
seotoaster is free and open source. There’s an online demo.
I’d love to hear what you think about it.
Thanks.
Michel.
cause its a different subject altogether? one thing is SEO, but its just one of the parts that are important in a site and not the most relevant ones (content/design/functions/hosting being some of them), so yours being good straight from the box doesn’t mean its a better software, especially cause I’ve never heard of you guys, you seem to have started just now, well since your domain is from this year, i guess you probably did… hehehe and i know pretty much every cms that is out there…
and wordpress is a pretty solid piece of software and i know its not a full fledged cms, but for my uses with it, it works pretty good, its not perfect and the plugins are not perfect, but it has a huge community behind it and its getting better and better.
How are you finding your comparison going between the two SEO programs?
well its difficult to pinpoint at this moment, 3 sites i’ve changed are still going good (changed away from All in One SEO), didn’t drop on their google ratings (well it would be weird if they did, it displays the same metatags as usual)
i just didn’t switch all my wordpress sites over, cause some of the nagging issues i had with the “All in One SEO” plugin were solved, enough that copying the metatags and such is bothersome as well as the 2 choices i gave are also bloated (and or add complexity) in their own ways, so i know i called this post “alternatives”, but i guess im also still looking ^_^’
hi guys,
i cant seem to have all in one seo or headspace2 working… none will change my page title, description etc.
can anyone help…im fearly new at this(my first website :p )i tried all i could.
nothing works.
any help would be very appreciated
thanks
hummm well if you can check your template its in /wp-content/themes/yourtheme (being yourtheme the theme you are using correctly) there you should have a file called header.php inside of it you have to make sure you have the wp_head tag
thats the tag both all in one seo and headspace 2 need to insert themselfs into your head space ohhh and make sure on your title you have inside that the wp_title tag
thats also needed, besides that if have them and it still doesnt work i suggest the wordpress.org forums they are there to help you ^_^
i cant even acces /wp-content/themes/gadget-story it gives me the error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_header() in /home/subtech/public_html/wp-content/themes/gadget-story/index.php on line 1
am i doing something wrong here…?
it just seems like my aioseo is not enabled..but i did enable it.
ahhhh… you shouldn’t access the theme directly, that error is perfectly normal, you can access the theme in 2 ways, through the wordpress control panel or through your ftp account, but like i told you, you should check the wordpress forum for support ^_^ http://wordpress.org/support/ its way better than me explaining here.
thanks alot,
great help
In addition to the reasons you have mentioned, All in one seo is broken with most of themes. All they can say is if it works with the default theme, the problem is with the theme. I have this problem with three different paid themes. And I think its irresponsible to say in their support forum. So frustrated with that.
well since i posted this, almost a year ago, there seems to be a lot more SEO type plugins for wordpress, i should check them out myself ^_^ and make a new post hehehe
I’m sick of All In One SEO Pack as well. It would be sweet if you could recommend an alternative…
I’m gonna look into the ones you mentioned, but I’d love to see your impressions about both tools.
hai hai, im also interested in knowing who is the best, or at least if there are good alternatives, see… since all in one seo pack fixed some of the things that made me hate it, i have paused the search, but ill test a couple today ^_^ and if there are something good, ill post it heheh
Since I posted here, I found a very nice alternative: WordPress SEO by Yoast. I’ve switched and do not plan on going back, ever.
Check it out: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-seo/
i will ^_^ !
and its done ^_^ took just a couple of hours… http://www.hostcult.com/2011/01/comparison-of-wordpress-seo-plugins.html humm i’m moving to another one today, just need to update like 30 wordpress installs hahahah
